Every year, The Learning Revolution Trust provides funding to 50 learners facing particular financial hardships, such as young people in or leaving care. The Trust also subsidises college lunches to ensure students can eat and learn well, and awards a number of bursaries to higher-education students and to talented athletes unable to qualify for government funding. £400 buys 100 nutritious lunches It’s hard to concentrate when you’re hungry. Yet many young people attending college cannot afford a healthy lunch - their families simply don’t have the money for such incidental costs. Every day, LRT provides 400 lunches to students, improving their concentration and attainment. £1,000 enables care-leavers to stay in education In the UK, young people leaving care are one of the most under-represented groups in further education. Without the encouragement and financial support of a family, the prospect of starting a college course can be daunting and a real barrier. Each year, LRT awards bursaries to 20 care-leavers to help them pursue their studies. £1,000 supports a young high-performance athlete Newham was one of the host boroughs for the London 2012 Olympics. As part of a continuing commitment to sporting excellence and the economic regeneration of the area, each year LRT funds the training of 20 talented athletes. This includes help towards the cost of coaching, specialist equipment, travel, and high-quality nutritional meals. £1,500 funds a higher-education studentMeeting the costs of a degree can be a battle. Some learners, for a variety of reasons, are not eligible for student finance from the government. Every year, LRT awards bursaries to 15 higher-education students to help with tuition fees, accommodation, travel, study books and ICT equipment.
